Walmart needs to start thinking about who really runs the company…its workers.

I’ve worked for Walmart for seven years, and in that time, its gone from a family orientated workplace to just a giant corporation looking to make a huge buck at the expense of its workers.  The store used to work with single mothers or parents with families and their schedules.  Now, if you do not comply with their open availability policy, they will cut your hours - thus losing your benefits. I have two children who are actively involved in sports, and I would occasionally like to see them play these sports.  I have been “encouraged” to open my availability, which I thought was open to begin with, so that I would get my full time hours.  I need to have set days off, this is the only way I can arrange doctor’s appointments and other activities with my family.  They want to make it so that I have split days off, and my schedule is all over the place to fit their whims. I am not asking for weekends off, I am not asking for early shifts 7-4, I am only asking that I get two set days off in a row in order to take care of my family.

I have been told that I may have to step down from my current position as a Customer Service Manager because of my scheduling. I applied for this job with my current availability, and got it, and now they are trying to change it and say it’s not good enough. Walmart needs to start thinking about who really runs the company…its workers.  I don’t see the CEO’s working weekends, or till midnight, and having split days off.  Walmart spouts about its community giving and how it’s so wonderful for communities. What about the workers inside the stores?  When will it be our turn to receive some recompense?  Lousy $0.40 a year raises and their bonuses, which only amount to fractions of what the company makes in a single day! I’m truly upset by what my Walmart has tried to do to me today, and I’m not sure if I can take it anymore.  In this tough economy with its serious employment issues, what choice do I have?
