Pay cut presents new challenges for mother of two

I have been employed at a South Carolina Wal-Mart since August 2008. As a registered pharmacy tech, my experience with this company has been completely stressful and just awful.  When I began working in the pharmacy, I noticed that there was a good deal of favoritism going on. If your lips are not firmly planted on the pharmacy manager’s behind, you will get screwed over in every possible way. The first incident happened after I was hired as a FULL-time employee.  The manager conveniently scheduled me 33 hours a week (They will move you to part-time status if your average hours are not 34 or above for 12 weeks straight).

One day, I was pulled into the ad office and told that I am being pushed down to part-time status. Conveniently, this happened a week after I was able to get health insurance.  I had to sign a paper saying that I understand why this had to happen (and at the time, I thought I HAD to sign this paper). After I signed, I asked for a copy of the document, and got many excuses why they couldn’t give me a copy.  I decided to look further into this, and found out that the pharmacy manager had hired 2 PART-TIME people after I became employed there, and they were being scheduled 39 hours a week, and, after 12 weeks, they were moved to full-time status.

The most recent issue to push me over the edge is when my manager told me they were “cutting my hours” again. However, this really meant they were moving to cashiers position, which just happens to be an 80-cent pay cut. I know that might not seem much, but I am a single mother of 2 and can barely make it on the pay I get now. Affording my house payment and bills, not to mention keeping my kids clothed and fed had become a challenge.  Seniority doesn’t do anything for you at this company.  I am a very hard worker and I have taken a lot of crap from this company.  I cannot take it anymore.
